The objective of quality control is development and management of technical solutions to serve operations and customers.

Principal items analyzed / objectives:

Wood classification:
Evaluation and combining of raw material obtained from different forests in order to minimize variation in production and products.

Control of chemical product deliveries:

Verification of compliance with pre-established quality specifications for supplies used in the plant.

Monitoring of variables in production:

Analytic testing at various stages of production for compliance with online specifications, allowing for operational adjustments throughout production.
Analysis of chemical constituents of wood and processes:
Using analytical techniques together with atomic asorption, NIRS, and ion chromatography equipment, we can identify chemical constituents (calcium, sodium, silica, iron, lignite, extracts, celulose level, hemicellulose, etc.) in samples of wood, pulp, contaminants, and deposits from the production process, allowing us to make rapid decisions.
Quality control of the final product:
Testing for specificied characterisitics of the pulp such as purity (a test based on color), contamination, viscosity, mechanical strength of the fibers, level of ash, porosity of the fibers, and other less common parameters.
As a means of making the application of its productsmore positive in relation to the properties of their fibers, Lwarcel maintains a Technical Customer Service department staffed by personnel experienced with numerous product applications. As its principal objective, this group strives to contribute to the optimization of its customers’ products and processes with respect to the use of our pulp, making itself available to monitor routine industrial testing, testing for appropriateness of applications, etc. In accordance with Lwarcel’s partnership approach, we make our Research and Development Laboratory available for testing to determine the causes of problems and to create opportunities for the optimization of production and improvement of our customers’ products.

Research activities:
Evaluation of wood for cloning:
Based on research directed at promoting genetic improvement of planted eucalyptus.
Simulation of stages of production:
Makes it possible to test operational improvements and modifications, substution of production workers, etc., and to determine in advance the effects on production. Most notable are simulations of cooking and bleaching sequences.
New product development:
As aproducer of specialty fibers, Lwart engages in constant research to develop alternative products and processes.

Through its system of quality, Lwart formally establishes procedures and work directives to guide the conduct of its operations, not only in its technical aspects but also in safety and environmental matters. Procedures and directives also define expected standards of quality as a basis for carrying out monitoring of production. Based on the results of monitoring, corrective measures and measures for improvement are adopted.
Our Quality Guarantee System is composed of the following measures:
General Standard of Servcies Index (IGQS):
This index represents the quality of forest products and services. Through monitoring carried out in the nursery, in forest cultivation, and in harvesting, it indicates monthly quality performace of forest operations.
15 and 90 day Survival Inventory:
Indicates survival percentages and causes of mortality. Results are used to define needs for replanting and to monitor forest growth.
Lwarcel 180 day Quality Index:
This index represents the quality of forests 180 days after planting. Evaluation of the planted tracts shows the following: survival, density, homogeneity, nutrition, competing vegetation, ants, pests, and soil conservation. These items make up an index which represents the quality of the forest during this phase and which can also facilitate production projections.
5 “S” Program :
All employees are trained to develop a sense of effectiveness, organization, cleanliness, hygiene and self-discipline. Evaluations are conducted three times a year to ensure the continuation of the program.
